Statement from Cantley Limpenhoe and Southwood Parish Council on the Closure of British Sugar’s factory.
Cantley Limpenhoe and Southwood Parish Council is deeply saddened to learn of the decision to close the British Sugar facility, bringing an end to its long-standing presence in our community.
This news will be a significant blow to the employees, their families, local businesses, farmers, and everyone who has been connected with the factory over many years. We recognise the uncertainty and hardship that many people will now face, and our thoughts are with all those affected.
The factory has been an important part of our parish, providing employment, supporting the local economy, and contributing to the character and identity of our community. Its closure marks the end of an important chapter in our local history.
The Parish Council will cascade information from the relevant authorities, support agencies, and local partners to ensure that those affected are made aware of the assistance available, in terms of employment, training, and wellbeing support.
We hope that every effort will be made to explore future opportunities for the site that will bring sustainable employment and investment back into our parish. The Parish Council stands ready to engage constructively with stakeholders to help secure a positive future for our community.
We remain committed to supporting our residents and will continue to provide updates as further information becomes available.
