Nutrient Nutraility Fund

Funding for projects to reduce nutrients entering our watercourses and release housing.

Published: 6 May 2025

Nutrient Mitigation Fund (Norfolk) – a collaboration between Broadland District Council, South Norfolk Council, Breckland Council, North Norfolk District Council and Norwich City Council.

Many planning applications across Norfolk are currently held up due to nutrient neutrality, with the need to be able to demonstrate that additional development will not increase the levels of phosphorus and nitrogen in our rivers.

By working together our Councils are able to offer Grant funding to undertake feasibility work, and capital loans to deliver nutrient reduction projects across Norfolk. Providing the opportunity for landowners and businesses to bring forward projects to reduce the levels of phosphorus and nitrogen currently entering our vulnerable watercourses – the River Wensum and The Broads.

Credits are generated from the nutrient mitigation, and the landowners can use these credits themselves for their own developments or sell them on, generating income for themselves.
